Turbine, developers of Infinite Crisis and Lord of the Rings Online, has reportedly been hit with layoffs. At least one member of the Lord of the Rings Online team has lost his job, as reported by Middle Earth Network. Warner Brothers confirmed the news in a statement today, saying “As part of our normal business process, we’re routinely looking at the strategic alignment of our company. Unfortunately, in order for us to invest in growth areas at Turbine, we have to eliminate some positions. These are always tough decisions, which we don’t approach lightly, but it’s crucial that Turbine is structured in a way that reflects the current and coming marketplace.”
This news throws into doubt the future of The Lord of Rings Online, as well as their forthcoming MOBA, Infinite Crisis. It seems Infinite Crisis will keep coming along though, as they just announced Star Sapphire as a new character today. When and if we learn more about what teams were effected, we will update our story.
