Full recap of Nintendo’s E3 Digital Event

Nintendo had their Digital Event for E3 this morning, and you can watch it in full above.  Otherwise, I’ve given you a recap below, complete with with the footage of each game.  The show opened with Nintendo poking fun at itself and it’s fans with sketches produced by Robot Chicken.  These sketches continued throughout the show, and were actually rather humorous, with jokes about Lil Mac’s refusal to take off his gloves, and Bowser just meeting Peach while getting Coffee

We next found ourselves in the midst of a fight between Reggie Fils Amie and Satoru Iwata.  After some anime inspire batling, they took their fight to the Wii U instead, introducing playable Mii fighters to Smash Bros.  They will come in three forms, brawler (reminiscent to Mario), swordsmen (reminiscent of Link), and gunner (reminiscent of Samus).  Sakurai, Smash Bros executive producer, went on to show a trailer for Smash Bros 3DS’ many modes, and give gamers a release date of October 3rd.  The Wii U version is still scheduled for Holiday 2014 release.

Reggie Fils Amie next introduced Nintendo’s foray into the NFC figure world, with Amiibos.  These figures will work across multiple titles, with Smash being the first, and support coming for Mario Kart 8 soon.  The figures will have their own unique stats and attributes, though not much else was divulged on them at this time.  The video below with Nintendo of America’s Bill Trinen better explains the figures as computer controlled AI that get better with each match or race.

Yoshi’s Wooly World was announced next, with it’s developers from Good Feel company, speaking about their studies of yarn and wool to get them just right.  Their is two player coop, and no time limit on levels.  There goal is to bring smiles to the faces of gamers just by owning it.  It is arriving in 2015.

Nintendo next showed a trailer for Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker.  It looks to be a spin-off of Super Mario 3D World, and is coming this Holiday.

It’s here.  We finally got our first look at The Legend of Zelda Wii U.  It was revealed that the game will be open world, with “no set path” for experiences.  The showcase ended with Link battling a robot-spider-like monster, and it looked just plain stunning.  It will be arriving in 2015 (which is way too long away)

Zelda was followed by an all new gameplay trailer for Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, showing just how good it will look.  As we previously learned, the game will run on the Pokemon X&Y engine, and have Mega Evolutions.  It is releasing on 3DS on November 21st.

Bayonetta 2 got a new trailer next, and it was revaled that this Wii U exclsuive will also come with the first Bayonetta in the package.  Their will also be Nintendo themed costumes for Bayonetta, including Samus, Peach and Link.  It launches this October.

The developers of Hyrule Warriors spoke on the event, talking about how they hope to make Dynasty Warrior fans out of Zelda fans, and vice versa.  Giant bosses, a staple of Zelda, are being added to Hyrule Warriors to ensure this feels like a Zelda title.  Link and Zelda were confirmed as playable characters, as were Impa and Midna from Twilight Princess.  It is releasing exclusively to Wii U on September 26th.

Kirby: Canvas Curse is getting a sequel of sorts of Wii U with the announcement of Kirby: Rainbow Curse.  Players will draw paths and direct Kirby with the gamepad, and Kirby will get a host of new forms to use including submarine, rocket, and tank.  It will arrive in 2015.

Monolith Software’s X officially has a title: Xenoblade Chronicles X.  Monlith showed off a new story trailer, and revealed a 2015 release window.

Nitnendo next showed off Mario Maker.  This game will let players build and play their own Mario levels, either in classic Mario graphics, or New Super Marios Brothers Wii U graphics.  Coming to Wii U in 2015.

Nintendo closed the show with a brand new IP!  It’s called Splatoon, and is a 4v4 multiplayer shooter, where players try to cover a map with their teams ink.  Oh, and you’re a squid who can transform into human form to fire that ink.

But that was not all!  Nintendo faked us out with the close actually being a new character revealed for Super Smash Bros! Lady Palutena from the Kid Icarus franchise will be joining the fray.

What’d you think of Nitnendo’s E3 Digital Event?  Are you still hungry for more?  Because it looks like we are getting a new Star Fox Wii U announcement this afternoon, so stay tuned!

Mario Golf: World Tour’s season pass detailed

Mario Golf World Tour

Mario Golf: World Tour brings the links to the 3DS in under two weeks, and Nintendo has announced it will feature a season pass that bundles together the games three add-ons.  The add-ons will be three packs that feature six, 18 hole golf courses, for a total of 108 extra holes.  For context, the game itself features 10 courses, for a total of 126 holes.  Each of the packs will include one extra character and two courses.

Starting on May 2nd (the game’s release date), the season pass will have the first DLC pack, called The Mushroom pack.  It will include the playable Toadette character.  Later that month, the Flower Pack will launch, which will include Peach as a playable character.  In June, the final pack, the Star Pack will feature Rosalina as a playable golfer.  Each pack by itself will cost $5.99, though players will have the opportunity to try the packs before they buy with Trial Tournaments.

The season pass will cost $14.99,  giving players $3 off the on the courses.  Those who buy the season pass also will receive a bonus playable character: Gold Mario.  It will be available through the Nintendo E-Shop on May 2nd.  What do you think of this move by Nintendo?  Let me know in the comments below!

Mario Golf: World Tour gets some completely wacky items

Mario Golf is returning players to the links, for the first time ever on the 3DS.  With this move to the new system, Mario and friends are bringing with them some insane items, that would be 100% illegal in normal golf.  The new items will allow you to make some of golf’s more difficult shots easier.  For example, is there a lake between you and the green, and you don’t want to go around the dog leg?  Use the new ice item that creates a patch of ice on the lake to ensure you make it to shore.  Can’t get far enough up the fairway?  Use the Missle Bill power-up to fly forward insanely fast.

Look for Mario Golf: World Tour on the Nintendo 3DS on May 2nd.

Dive into the new underwater course for Mario Golf: World Tour

An all new trailer for Mario Golf: World Tour was released today, showcasing an underwater course, called Cheep Cheep Lagoon.  Set to the iconic underwater theme from the original Super Mario, the trailer showcases the incredibly unique look and feel of the course.  Knowing where the fairways are could prove difficult on Cheep Cheep Lagoon, as could avoiding the massive blow-fish that make getting to the green far more challenging.

Mario Golf: World Tour releases exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS on May 2nd for $29.99.

Rumor: Super Smash Bros. U and Mario Kart 8 both launching in Spring 2014

smash bros screenIt looks like Super Smash Bros U and Mario Kart 8 could both be arriving this coming Spring.  Bernd Fakesch, Nintendo’s German General Manager, speaking with the German newspaper Neckar-Chronik, said (roughly translated thanks to Neogaf and Google Translate) that both Super Smash Bros U and Mario Kart 8 are coming to the Wii U in Spring.

This move could be the kick in the pants that the Wii U needs, as the console has obviously had a sluggish year.  This would not be an all together unheard of move for Nintendo either, as Mario Kart Wii and Smash Bros Brawl came out a month apart in Spring 2008.  They may be looking to capture that same lightning in a bottle one more time.  While no date was given for the 3DS version of Smash, it is probably safe to assume that it will release in tandem with the Wii U version.

Mario & Luigi replace Nintendo Land in new Wii U Deluxe Bundle

New Super Mario Bros U boxartToday, Nintendo of America announced that the Wii U 32GB Deluxe bundle will now come bundled with New Super Mario Bros U and New Super Luigi U.  Deluxe bundles have previosuly been bundled with Nintendo Land, which will now be available for download for the price of $29.99, this price is also Nintendo’s new suggested retail price.

In the press release Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing said “This new Wii U configuration gives people instant access to not one, but two of the most well-received Wii U games. It’s another example of the tremendous value and variety that Nintendo is offering consumers this holiday season.”

Potential buyers still have the Legend of Zelda Winder Waker HD bundle available to purchase, which includeds a limited edition console, a download of Wind Waker HD, a 32GB hard drive, and a digital Hyrule Historia book.  Both of these bundles will retail for $299.99.

This reporter’s opinion:  This is a great move on Nintendo’s part.  Basically giving away two full games with their system may hurt software sales, but they need to get that install base up for the console.  This will also give parents a great alternative to the expensive new consoles.
