Three new fighters announced for Super Smash Bros!

For the past week, Nintendo has been promising to reveal an all new fighter for Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS.  Nintendo lived up to that pledge and then some by revealing three new additions to the roster.  First up is the return of Captain Falco!  the F-Zero protagonist, and long time Smash Bros fighter will once again join the ever expanding cast of Super Smash Bros.  Joining the Captain will be two additional fighters from the Fire Emblem universe: Lucina and Robin.

Lucina and Robin will be familiar to fans of the recent 3DS smash hit Fire Emblem: Awakening, as they each were first introduced there.  Lucina is a master swordswoman, who’s prowess will put her on equal footing with the other Fire Emblem fighters already in Smash Bros.  Robin is a name many may not know immediately, but he is actually the protagonist of Awakening.  Though players can choose a name in-game, Robin is the character’s official canon name.  Robin is a spellsword, who can cast numerous lightning spells from his tomes and fight her opponents up close with a blade.  Robin will be playable as both a male and female.

Although Chrom was teased in the above video, he will not be playable in Super Smash Bros.  He is in the game, but just as a part of Robin’s Final Smash.  It’s not currently known if Nintendo has any more fighters to unveil for their premier fighter.  Smash Bros’ official website has all of it’s spaces filled for characters currently.  While these spaces have been expanded in the past, it could mean the roster is now full at 36 characters.  I’m sure we’ll learn more as we get closer to the 3DS release on October 3rd, and Wii U release this Holiday.

Ike joins Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS!

Super smash bros IkeVeteran fighter approaches! Ike from the Fire Emblem franchise is returning to Super Smash Bros in the Wii U and 3DS editions!  The fighter’s return was announced on Masahiro Sakurai’s Miiverse page, with Sakurai writing “Ike, the swordsman of magnificent strength, joins the battle!! Strike your foes down with his powerful smash attacks.”  As the picture to to the right shows, Ike is far beefier in this version then before, turning Ike into more of a heavy damage character.  “Ike’s design is based on the hero that appears in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. His sword deals heavy damage in Smash Bros., so this design suits him very well! Rest assured, he can use Aether as well.

Ike is the 30th fighter to join the newest installment of the Super Smash Bros series.  He will join newcomers like Mega Man, the Wii Fit Trainer, Little Mac, and Greninja, as well as series mainstays like Mario, Link, Kirby and so many more.  How many more characters are set to be revealed?  We have no real idea, but rest assured that we will see at least one new character during Nintendo’s E3 Direct.  Fans can get even more of the game when 16 of the top Smash Player from around the world compete at a Nintendo sponsored tournament at E3, and play the game at participating Best Buy retailers during E3 week.

Super Smash Bros 3DS is set for release this Summer, with the Wii U version following this Winter.

Marth is returning for the new Super Smash Bros!

super smash bros marthSuper Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS are getting their first character from the Fire Emblem universe!  Marth will make a comeback for his 3rd Super Smash Bros game, and joins returning series stall-wards like Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Peach, Toon Link and many more.  New characters like the Wii Fit Trainer, Mega Man, and Sonic are also coming to fight in the upcoming entry to the franchise.

Fans of Marth can already see him in the 3DS’ amazing Fire Emblem: Awakening.  Super Smash Bros will be coming to the Wii U and 3DS sometime in 2014, and look for even more character announcements before then.   My hope is for Little Mac from the Punch Out! series or Ray MKIII from the Custom Robo series.  What character’s do you want to join the fray next?
