Bethesda E3 2016 Press Conference Highlights

Bethesda presented it’s second ever E3 Press Conference this evening, and continued on the strong press conference they put on during E3 2015.  The press conference was tight and concise, but it had a moments that threw off the pacing (Mostly the Elder Scrolls Online and Doom DLC).  I’ve pieced together a few highlights of the press conference below, and overall it was a good conference with a few new game announcements and some deep dives into some of their biggest upcoming games.

1. Quake is back!!!!!!

The Maryland based publisher opened the show was a big time revival: Quake is coming back.  The below CG trailer was used to revealed the new upcoming Quake game titled Quake: Champions.  No further details were revealed for the game beyond that it will be the fast-paced arena shooter that Quake is known for, but id said they will be showing off more gameplay at QuakeCon this August.

2. Fallout 4 is  taking a trip to NukaWorld and Skyrim is coming to PS4 and Xbox One

Todd Howard came to the conference via video to reveal three new DLCs for Fallout 4.  The first two DLCs are additional workshop DLC which will allow players to create crazy contraptions, or create entire Vaults for their settlements.  The contraptions DLC will launch next week, and the Vault DLC will launch in July.  The Third DLC will feature a trip to NukaWorld, a Disney World inspired amusement park that the player will explore.  It is coming in August.  Todd Howard also confirmed one heavily leaked bit of information that Skyrim is being remastered and coming to PS4 and Xbox One this October.

3. Arkane Studios reveals a Prey reboot which feels inspired by System Shock

Another horribly kept secret in this industry is Arkane Studios’ reboot of Prey.  This game does not look at all tied to the 3D Realms 2006 shooter, as it looks to be more of horror/thriller sort of game.  The official description reads “You are Morgan Yu, the subject of morally dubious experiments designed to improve the human race. You awaken aboard the Talos 1 in the year 2032 and must uncover the secrets hiding in the depths of the space station while being hunted by the mysterious alien force that has taken over. You’ll have to rely on the tools you find on the station – along with your wits, weapons and mind-bending abilities – to combat the growing threat and, hopefully, survive”.  It is coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2017.

4. Dishonored 2 garners a long showcase

Arkane Studios got the premier slot in this year’s press conference and debuted about twenty minutes of footage for their upcoming first person stealth action game Dishonored 2.  As they announced, players can play as either Emily or Corvo in the sequel and it will take gamers to a new city, while beginning and ending the game in Dunwall.  Arkane showcased new abilities, new environments (including dust storms from the local mine), and new devices that the player can actually use to travel back in time.  Dishonored is coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC on November 11th, with a limited Collector’s Edition that comes with a Corvo mask as well.

That’s it for Day 1 of E3 press conferences, what were your favorite moments?  Let me know in the comments below, and get hyped because tomorrow we have four press conferences: Microsoft, PC, Ubisoft, and PlayStation.

Bethesda E3 2015 Press Conference Recap!

Bethesda’s first ever E3 press conference was an atomic bomb of awesome.  We got new long looks at Fallout 4, Doom, and Battlecry, as well as new games like Dishonored 2 and Fallout Shelter.  First up was a massive, in-depth look at Doom.  First up was a look at gameplay with our heroic Space Marine on Mars setting out to fight Hell’s demons.  We got out first looks at the returning Super Shotgun, chainsaw, and new abiltiies like executions of damaged enemies.  Next, Id revealed that their will be a multiplayer game editor called Doom Snapmap, that allows players to create new maps, modes, and both competitive and cooperative experience for players.  Id closed their presentation by showing off a gameplay demo in Hell.  It, of course, ended with our first look at the new BFG.  Doom launches Spring 2016.

Next, Battlecry studios showed off a new video for their upcoming free-to-play multiplayer game Battlecry.  They revealed players can sign up for a new global beta on Battlecry’s website.  They closed their portion with the new gameplay trailer seen below that showed off the new Han Nation.

Following Battlecry was talk of Elder Scrolls Online, where the team at Bethesda revealed the new areas coming to ESO this year, and a brand new card-battler coming to ipads and PCs called Elder Scrolls: Legends.  It will launch later this year.

The biggest new announcement of the show was for Dishonored 2.  Arkane Studios showed off the CG trailer below, and revealed that players can play as either Dishonored’s protagonist Corvo or Emily, an all new character, and each will have abilities that the other doesn’t.  No release date was announced.  They did announce a definitive edition of the first Dishonored would be coming to Xbox One and PS4 this fall though.  It will include the base game and all of it’s DLC.

Next up was the main event: Fallout 4.  Game Director Todd Howard took the stage next and gave us a massive look at Fallout 4. He revealed that your character, which is fully voiced and either a man or woman, is the sole survivor of Vault 111, and a survivor of the initial nuclear attacks that destroyed the world.  You emerge from your vault and the world is your oyster.  Howard stressed how this is still a game based on exploration, but you will also be able to put down roots.  In a new crafting system, you can build up settlements and create defenses for that settlement to protect it from raider invasions.  You will also be able to craft your weapons and completely change your basic weapon into a massive death machine.

Howard also gave a long look at gameplay for Fallout 4, showing off the improved VATS system, your dog companion, and the many diverse areas you’ll be fighting in.  Also you can apparently call down a helicopter and just fly to other places while using the side mounted mini-gun, so that’s fucking amazing.  Howard announced their will be a Collector’s Edition of the game that comes with your own wearable Pip-Boy.  This Pip-boy has a slot for your phone which will act as your in-game Pip-Boy thanks to a companion app they will be releasing.  Howard finally tore the house down with the announcement that Fallout 4 will launch on November 10, 2015 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

In a surprise announcement, Howard revealed an all new iOS mobile game called Fallout Shelter, which is available right now on the App Store.  It is a strategy and base management game in the same vein as XCOM, FTL and The Sims.  You control your own vault and it’s residents.  You can train them to do different things, send them on hunts, and build new sections of the vault.

And that was how Bethesda opened E3 with a bang.  What was your favorite part of the presser?  What upcoming press conference are you most excited for?  Let me know in the comments and look forward to even more E3 tomorrow!
