Next week, buy an Xbox One and get any new game for free

Xbone get one game free promoBeginning on Sunday June 21st, gamers who purchase an Xbox One will receive another game for free, according to Xbox’s Major Nelson.  This offer, which will run through June 27th, is valid on both the 500GB models of the Xbox One and the new 1TB models of the Xbox One.  This also includes the bundles that come with games like Halo: The Master Chief Collection or the one that arrives with both Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Black Flag.  We don’t currently know what retailers will participate in this deal, but it is probably safe to assume that places like Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Gamestop will be involved.

As to what your free game can be, it’s seemingly totally up to you.  Major Nelson revealed it can be literally any new Xbox One title that’s MSRP does not exceed $59.99 (the standard price for a new game).  So, gamers who want the brand new Batman: Arkham Knight and an Xbox One are in luck as those are both apart of the promotion.  As the image above shows, it can also include games like Forza Horizon 2, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Dragon Age: Inquisition, or the phenomenal Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.  Microsoft ran a similar promotion to this last year around the launch of Destiny, seemingly to combat the PlayStation 4 Destiny bundle.  It should be noted that the PS4 has a Batman: Arkham Knight bundle starting next week as well.

Ubisoft 2015 E3 Press Conference Recap!

Ubisoft’s press conference is in the books, and it was a surprisingly good one.  Kicking things off was the surprise reveal of of a new South Park RPG called South Park: The Fractured But Whole.  It is once again being written and voiced by Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and it’s being developed by Ubisoft San Francisco, not Obsidian.  Ubi San Francisco’s previous titles are certainly less than stellar,   but according to their official site they assisted on development of Stick of Truth.  No release window was revealed, but this game will be a superhero game, not a medieval fantasy title like Stick of Truth.

Next up, Ubisoft revealed a brand new IP called For Honor.  The four vs four multiplayer game will pit two teams against each other in medieval combat as one of three factions.  Creative Director Jason Van Denberg took to the stage to speak about the weight that each of the swords will have to them.  We got to see a live demo of the game on PS4 and it was honestly spectacular.  Those at E3 can play it live right now, and fans can sign up for a beta that will happen…..eventually.  No date was given.

Next up, we got our first look at an expansion for The Crew called Wild Run.  It features bigger cars like monster trucks and sleeker ones like motorcycles.  This expansion will launch on November 17th, 2015.  We next got a look at a new expansion for Trials Fusion called  Awesome Level Max.  It comes with a “unique unicorn-riding cat” as well as “30 all-new tracks plus 10 Supercross tracks, 30 unexpected and various challenges to complete, unicorn bike & cat rider, 5 new garage items and more than 130 fresh new Editor objects.”  It launches on July 14th.

Massive Entertainment took the the stage next and revealed a new mode of The Division called The Dark Zone.  This will be The Division’s pvp area, where players can either work with or against every person they see.  In the demo below, our players try to get some loot by working with friends and some new “friends” they found along the way.  Naturally, betrayal happens.  Watch it below, and look for The Division on March 8th, 2016.  The beta will come first to Xbox One.

Ubisoft announced a new entry into the long running Anno series that takes it to the moon.  It’s called Anno 2205, and it’s coming to PC’s on November 3rd.  They also followed this up with info on Just Dance 2016, but honestly I’m going to skip over that.  I don’t think most of my readers would find it interesting.

Actress Angela Bassett was introduced as the commander of Rainbow Six: Siege’s forces.  Ubisoft went on to announce that TerroHunt is back.  It is a 1-4 player mode that pits you and friends against incredibly smart A.I.  We also got a live demo of the mode, and it looks tense as hell.  Look for Rainbow Six: Siege on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 13th.

Next up, Ubisoft revealed they are bringing their long running Trackmania series to consoles.  The developers took to the stage and gave us a live demo running on PS4.  It will be called Trackmania Turbo, and no release date has been announced.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate had a very minimal presence at Ubisoft’s E3 press conference.  They simply showed a CG trailer for the upcoming title and announced that it was playable at Ubisoft’s booth.  They did release a long gameplay demo, which I’ve linked to below.  Look for Syndicate on PS4, Xbox One, and PC October 23rd.

To close the show, Ubisoft did it’s famous “One more thing” and revealed a new Ghost Recon game called Ghost Recon: Wildlands.  It is a four player co-op online game set in a massive open world where players will take on missions to take down drug cartels.  The demo focused on the many ways that players can take out their target, either with stealth, open assaults or ambushes.  No release date was announced.

And that was Ubisoft’s 2015 E3 press conference.  What was your favorite part?  Let me know in the comments below!

PlayStation E3 Press Conference recap!

Sony’s E3 press conference is where dreams come true.  While watching this press conference a grown man wept at the announcements, and we all cheered with joy.  I apologize for not have much objectivity, but the excitement this created is unparalleled.  Sony opened with the long awaited Last Guardian.  Yes, The Last Guardian was shown for the first time in nearly a decade.  We got a six minute gameplay demo of the game, and it was revealed it will be launching on PS4 in 2016.

Next up, Guerrilla Games unveiled their newest IP called Horizon: Zero Dawn.  It is set post apocalypse, when humanity is rebuilding all while dealing with robotic animals that look like dinosaurs that roam the landscape.  No release date was announced, but we got a significantly long demo for the game, which culminated in our heroine fighting a mechanized T-Rex of sorts.

Square Enix showed a new trailer next for a new Hitman game with a CG trailer.  No release date or any real info was given, but Square does have their own press conference tomorrow, so expect info then.  Ubisoft followed them announcing exclusive content for the PS4 version of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate would have exclusive content on PlayStation.  They also showed off a trailer for the game’s secondary lead, Evie Frye.

Capcom revealed two new characters for Street Fighter V: Birdie and the returning Cammy.  PS4 owners will also get an exclusive beta starting on July 23rd.  Expect SFV in early 2016.

Hello Games took the stage next and showed off an extended walkthrough of their upcoming sci-fi exploration game No Man’s Sky.  Sean Murray of Hello Games showed the massive scale of the universe, and let us see just what we’d do in the game.  We will be exploring new worlds, scouting new life, and battling the NPC forces that prevent you from doing this.  No release dates were announced.

Media Molecule returned to the PlayStation stage to demo their new game called Dreams.  The unique game will let players create their own dream worlds where anything is possible.  More of the game will be shown at Paris Games Week, but no release window was given again.  We also got a trailer for the upcoming indie title Firewatch, which again had no release window.

Adam Boyes took the stage next to announce the new Destiny Expansion: The Taken King.  It was exactly what was in the leaked document, and Boyes promised that the new expansion would give new supers, as well as PlayStation exclusive maps, strikes and gear.  It launches on September 15th.

Next up we had two Final Fantasy reveals.  One was obviously bigger than the other.  First was a reveal of a Chibi-style World of Final Fantasy. But never mind that, Sony and Square Enix announced a remake of Final Fantasy VII.  A full blown remake of the beloved PS One classic.  No release date was announced but honestly, don’t expect it anytime soon.

Dreams continued to be fulfilled with the announcement of a Kickstarter for Shenmue 3.  That’s right folks, the long awaited game will be made if fans fund the $2 million goal on Kickstarter.  You can fund it here.  It’s expected release window is late 2017, so it’ll be a while.

We also got new trailers for Batman: Arkham Knight which launches next Tuesday, and four new games from Devolver Digital.  Sony went on to talk about Project Morpheus and talked about a few titles that they are bringing to it.  From there, they announced their streaming tv service PlayStation Vue will have an ala carte style of channel purchasing.  So, if you don’t want HGTV, you don’t have to get it.

Sony’s Andrew House announced a new deal with Activision, revealing that all DLC for Black Ops III will be coming to PS4 a month early, a similar deal to Xbox’s in previous years.  We got a four player co-op campaign demo for Black Ops III as well as a multiplayer reveal trailer.  It looks like it takes a lot of ques from Titanfall as well.  Check them both out below.

Star Wars was next, with Sony announcing an exclusive limited edition of Disney Infinity 3.0 that will include the Rise against the Empire playset, and it will be the only place to get it for the first month.  This limited edition will also come with a Boba Fett figure, which will once again be exclusive for a month.  DICE took the stage next to show off their survival mode, which pits four players against 15 waves of co-op.  It all looks really good.  Look for Infinity in September, and then Battlefront on November 17th.

Finally, PlayStation closed with an all new demo for Uncharted 4: Thieves End.  This extended gameplay demo was a return to the swashbuckling style of previous games with Nate and Sully fighting through a bazaar and running away in a 4×4 from a massive APC.  They were chasing Nate’s brother, only for it to end with an awesome grappling hook moment.  Uncharted 4 launches sometime in 2016.

Holy cow.  PlayStation announced a ton of things that everyone has been waiting for, but no real massive titles exclusive for this year.   What was your favorite moment of the presser?  Let me know in the comments below and get hyped for even more E3 tomorrow with Nintendo and Square Enix!

EA 2015 E3 press conference recap!

EA’s press conference is in the books, and they opened it with a bang.  First up was the teaser trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda.  You will travel to the Andromeda galaxy and explore it.  That’s about all we know about Bioware’s next now, but expect to learn more about in the next year, as Mass Effect: Andromeda launches in Holiday 2016

Next up, EA revealed the new Need for Speed reboot.  It will launch on November 3rd, and looks just plain gorgeous.  Your car will have a new dynamic camera that follows your car in a way we haven’t seen in any racing game before.  Their is also a really weird live-action footage for the game’s cinematics.  It’s launching on PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 3rd.

Star Wars: The Old Republic was featured next, with Bioware Austin revealing their new expansion Knights of the Fallen Empire.  Bioware promised a return to Bioware style storytelling.  It will launch this October, and come free to all subscribers of The Old Republic.  Note that it is a free to play game, so non-subscribers will have to pay for it.  EA also promised more betas and early access for their game than ever before.

EA revealed a small surprising game next with Unravel.  Honestly, this game stole the show.  You play as a yarn doll that uses itself to traverse his environment.  The trailer really brought a tear to my eye.  I don’t know when it comes out, but I will be buying it day one.

Next up we got a big blowout for Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2.  GW2 will feature six new classes and EA revealed a new game mode called Graveyard Ops, that feature the Zombies on defense now.  They showcased the new classes including The Imp, Captain Dreadbeard, and Super Brainz.  Zombies will also have access to the Z-mech.  GW2 will have split screen co-op and A.I. battles.  Characters will be able to be transferred from GW1 to 2, and it will launch in Spring on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Next up was sports.  We got a look at Rory Mcilroy PGA Tour, NHL 16, NBA Live 16, FIFA 16, and Madden 16.  Each one is promising new features, but they felt like more of the same (not that that’s a bad thing.)

Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst was shown next, and promised to tell the origin story for Faith, Mirror’s Edge’s protagonist.  Player will take on Gabriel Kreuger, the leader of a city without personal freedom or privacy.  It will seemingly be an open-world game and have no “levels” but rather missions.  It is playable at E3, and launching on February 23rd, 2016.

Naturally, it closed with the biggest gun of them all: Star Wars: Battlefront.  The footage below was all captured on a PS4, and honestly looks incredible.  We got to witness “Walker Assault” on Hoth, and the footage was from both the Empire and Rebellion perspective.  Honestly, the gameplay speaks for itself, and it’s awesome.  We got to see normal gunfights, AT-ST combat, AT-AT walker control, Snowspeeders using tow cables, and even playable Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.  Just watch it.  Battlefront launches November 17th on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t bother to include EA’s talk of mobile, but that was there.  I didn’t care about any of it, and honestly you probably didn’t either.  What was your favorite part of the presser?  What are you looking forward to of all of EA’s offerings?  (It was Star Wars wasn’t it?)  Let me know in the comments!

Xbox E3 2015 Press conference recap!

Microsoft’s E3 press conference is over, and Microsoft brought out some big time guns for it.  They opened the presser with Bonnie Ross of 343 Industries showing off Halo 5.  In a four player co-op campaign demo, we saw Spartan Locke and his Fire-team Osiris hunting down the Master Chief in conjunction with The Arbiter’s Sangheili forces.  It showcased the new commands that Locke can issue to his squad mates, as well as the new Promethean enemies.  Next, Josh Holmes announced the new multiplayer game-mode for Halo 5: Warzone.  This is 24 players and can be PvP or PvE fighting against enemies like Hunters, Grunts and Prometheans.  Holmes promised these maps would be larger than anything ever seen in Halo.  Halo 5: Guardians comes to Xbox One October 27th.

Next, Microsoft revealed a brand new IP coming from Keiji Inafune, famous for Mega Man, as well as some of the team behind the Metroid Prime Trilogy, who now work at both Armature Studios and Comcept.  It follows a girl and her Robot, who’s conscious can be transferred to any robot in the landscape.  It is called Recore, and is coming Xbox One exclusively in Spring 2016.

Phil Spencer took the stage next, and dropped two big bombs: a brand new Xbox One controller with “featuring an arsenal of swappable components, Hair Trigger Locks, and limitless customization.”  It’s called the Xbox Elite controller and presumably is coming this Fall.  He then revealed that Xbox One would be getting backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 coming this Holiday.  They didn’t reveal if it was all games, but it seems like it’s the majority of the Xbox 360 games.

Todd Howard of Bethesda took the stage next, and showed off some new and some old footage from Fallout 4.  We got a larger and extended combat sequence with the player taking control of some power armor and fighting a Deathclaw that clawed it’s way out of the sewer.  Howard also revealed that PC mods would be usable on Xbox One exclusively.  Fallout 4 comes to consoles and PC 11-10-15

Peter Moore of EA took the stage next to tout EA Access and announced that Titanfall would be joining the service today, and Dragon Age Inquisition would join later this summer.  Moore revealed that EA access would be free this week, so gamers can try the service for free.  Finally, Moore announced Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 will be coming in Spring 2016.

Turn 10 Studios took the stage next, and revealed that Forza Motorsports 6 would be coming to Xbox One September 15th.  It will feature new cars, new tracks and weather effects that look phenomenal.

Next up, we got the reveal of Dark Souls 3.  No gameplay was shown, but we did get a Spring 2016 release date.  It is assumed the game will be coming to PS4 as well.  We also got a brand new look at The Division, and honestly it looks like the graphics took a bit of a downgrade.  It still looks good, just not spectacular like we saw before.  Ubisoft also announced all copies of Rainbow Six Siege would come with copies of Rainbow Six Vegas and Vegas 2 on Xbox One.

We next got a look at Microsoft’s upcoming MOBA-esc battler Gigantic, which will have a beta beginning in August.  ID @ Xbox took the stage next and gave us a closer look at four major ID@Xbox console exclusives: Cuphead, Tacoma from Fullbright Studios, Ashen, and Beyond Eyes which is a game where you explore the world as a blind girl.  Xbox One will also be getting early access, with games like Long Dark, Day Z and Elite Dangerous all apart of the program this year.  Dean Hall, the creator of Day Z, also revealed his new game called ION.  It’s “an emergent narrative massively-multiplayer online game in which players will build, live in and inevitably die in huge floating galactic constructions as humanity makes its first steps colonizing the universe.”  Coming first to Xbox One and PC.

Crystal Dynamics took the stage to showcase their Holiday Xbox exclusive: Rise of the Tomb Raider.  In our first ever look at gameplay, we saw Lara climbing in an arctic environment, and later saw Lara exploring massively diverse environment.  It looks beautiful, and will launch on Xbox One on 11-10-15

Rare took the stage next to announce a massive collection of Rare games will be coming to Xbox One.  Called the Rare Rewind, players will get 30 Rare games for $30.  This collection includes Banjo-Kazooie, Battletoads, Viva Pinata, Perfect Dark, and more.  Rare also announced a brand new IP called Sea of Thieves.  The massive multiplayer game lets players be pirates, including controlling your own ships, hunting for treasure and battling other pirates.  No release date or window revealed though.

Next, Microsoft announced Fable Legends will be going free-to-play, and launches this Holiday.  It will feature cross-play with Windows 10 and Xbox.  We also got a major demo of Microsoft’s Hololens technology in Minecraft and it looked magical.  The real question, posed by Gametrailers’ Ian Hinck was “But will it be fun?”  It looks astounding, but I too worry about if it’ll be actually fun.  No release date was revealed, but expect to hear more soon.

The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson took the stage to reveal the latest in the Gears of War franchise.  First up, he announced we would be getting a remake of Gears of War 1 called Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.  It launches on August 25th, and a one week beta for the public starts today on Xbox One and runs for one week.  Lastly, we got a major demo from Gears of War 4, the next game in the Gears franchise.  It looks phenomenally gorgeous and introduced two new characters and one completely different almost beetle-esc enemy.  Gears of War 4 is coming Holiday 2016.

And that was it.  Microsoft put on a massive show to open the Monday of pressers.  What was your favorite moment?  What do the other companies have to do to beat Microsoft?  Let me know in the comments below!

Bethesda E3 2015 Press Conference Recap!

Bethesda’s first ever E3 press conference was an atomic bomb of awesome.  We got new long looks at Fallout 4, Doom, and Battlecry, as well as new games like Dishonored 2 and Fallout Shelter.  First up was a massive, in-depth look at Doom.  First up was a look at gameplay with our heroic Space Marine on Mars setting out to fight Hell’s demons.  We got out first looks at the returning Super Shotgun, chainsaw, and new abiltiies like executions of damaged enemies.  Next, Id revealed that their will be a multiplayer game editor called Doom Snapmap, that allows players to create new maps, modes, and both competitive and cooperative experience for players.  Id closed their presentation by showing off a gameplay demo in Hell.  It, of course, ended with our first look at the new BFG.  Doom launches Spring 2016.

Next, Battlecry studios showed off a new video for their upcoming free-to-play multiplayer game Battlecry.  They revealed players can sign up for a new global beta on Battlecry’s website.  They closed their portion with the new gameplay trailer seen below that showed off the new Han Nation.

Following Battlecry was talk of Elder Scrolls Online, where the team at Bethesda revealed the new areas coming to ESO this year, and a brand new card-battler coming to ipads and PCs called Elder Scrolls: Legends.  It will launch later this year.

The biggest new announcement of the show was for Dishonored 2.  Arkane Studios showed off the CG trailer below, and revealed that players can play as either Dishonored’s protagonist Corvo or Emily, an all new character, and each will have abilities that the other doesn’t.  No release date was announced.  They did announce a definitive edition of the first Dishonored would be coming to Xbox One and PS4 this fall though.  It will include the base game and all of it’s DLC.

Next up was the main event: Fallout 4.  Game Director Todd Howard took the stage next and gave us a massive look at Fallout 4. He revealed that your character, which is fully voiced and either a man or woman, is the sole survivor of Vault 111, and a survivor of the initial nuclear attacks that destroyed the world.  You emerge from your vault and the world is your oyster.  Howard stressed how this is still a game based on exploration, but you will also be able to put down roots.  In a new crafting system, you can build up settlements and create defenses for that settlement to protect it from raider invasions.  You will also be able to craft your weapons and completely change your basic weapon into a massive death machine.

Howard also gave a long look at gameplay for Fallout 4, showing off the improved VATS system, your dog companion, and the many diverse areas you’ll be fighting in.  Also you can apparently call down a helicopter and just fly to other places while using the side mounted mini-gun, so that’s fucking amazing.  Howard announced their will be a Collector’s Edition of the game that comes with your own wearable Pip-Boy.  This Pip-boy has a slot for your phone which will act as your in-game Pip-Boy thanks to a companion app they will be releasing.  Howard finally tore the house down with the announcement that Fallout 4 will launch on November 10, 2015 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

In a surprise announcement, Howard revealed an all new iOS mobile game called Fallout Shelter, which is available right now on the App Store.  It is a strategy and base management game in the same vein as XCOM, FTL and The Sims.  You control your own vault and it’s residents.  You can train them to do different things, send them on hunts, and build new sections of the vault.

And that was how Bethesda opened E3 with a bang.  What was your favorite part of the presser?  What upcoming press conference are you most excited for?  Let me know in the comments and look forward to even more E3 tomorrow!
