Microsoft came out swinging with their E3 Press conference, showing off games, games, and more games. The presser opened with Head of Xbox Phil Spencer thanking the fans. Consistently throughout, Spencer spoke about the fan suggestions, tweets, and more on how they can improve Xbox. “You are shaping the future of Xbox One, and we are better for it.” He went on to say that the entire briefing would be focused around games, and he was not lying.
Call of Duty once again was the first title shown, with Sledgehammer games live on stage to present the demo. It saw the players air-dropped, almost ODST style into a war torn Seoul, South Korea. Once their, players powered through lines of enemies, with their fellow soldiers wielding mech suits, tanks, and massive spider-mechs. They faced a swarm of drones that looked Kryll swarm from Gears of War, and used a car door to defend themselves. New weapons were on display, like seismic shotgun, laser gun and they showed off the game’s exo-suit abilities like jump jets.
Next up, Turn 10 took the stage to announce that Nürburgring ring is coming to Forza 5 today for free. Copied to the milimeter, the track will be the entire 16 meter course. On top of that, Playground games spoke about Forza Horizon 2, announcing it is coming on September 30th, and will have 200 cars including the debut of the Lamborghini Hurricane.
A new trailer for Turtle Rock’s upcoming 4v1 shooter Evolve was shown. The trailer showed off an all new monster that can only be described as a mix of a gorrilla and a squid, that could also fly and has lightning powers. Needless to say, it’s fucking awesome. Evolve releases on October 21st.
Ubisoft took the stage next to show off Assassin’s Creed Unity, and it’s four player co-op. The series first will allow players to work cooperatively to assassinate enemies, and form their own Brotherhoods. Players can now travel through buildings, and leap out the other side, which is a series first as well. The game looks freaking gorgeous, so give it a look.
An all new trailer for Dragon age: Inquisition was shown, and showcased a ton of new gameplay. Expect gameplay during the E3 presser.
Insomniac’s Ted Price came to the stage next, showing off Sunset Overdrive. It looks just plain fun, with propane guns, grinding on a roller coaster, and even more fun looking gameplay. The most impressive was the battle with a Herker, and eight players co-op multiplayer was confirmed. It’s coming October 28th, 2014.
Dead Rising 3 then made fun of Capcom with an all new DLC campaign, that’s just a mash-up of everything Capcom. In Dead Rising 3 Super Ultra Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX Alpha Plus (That’s the actual title) sees players play as all three Dead Rising protagonists, and an all new character as they fight a cavalcade of Capcom-themed enemies.
Harmonix took a side stage next to promote Fantasia: Music Evolve and announce an all new Dance Central game, called Spotlight. It will be downloadable only, and promises to bring songs to fans faster and better then ever. Lionhead spoke next, and showed off a live demo of Fable Legends. It will feature class-based coop, where a fifth player can play as the villain. They work in a top down approach, where they try to stop the heroes from completing a level. The game’s beta is coming this Holiday.
Next Project Spark’s new content was shown off, and a trailer revealed the game’s potential. Conker then briefly appeared, telling gamers that Conker is being added to Project Spark.
343 Industries Bonnie Ross took the stage next to announce the Halo Master Chief Collection. It will feature Halo 1-4, all remastered in 1080p/60 frames per second. This included multiplayer, campaign, and all of the maps. Halo 2 is getting the anniversary treatment as well, with it getting a graphical face-lift like in Halo Anniversary. It will also include the new Halo tv series, Nightfall, and a pass into the Halo 5 Beta, which is coming this December. Below is the gameplay from Halo 2 that was demoed live on stage by former Halo pros Bravo, Neighbor, and Ghostyame.
Many new indie titles were shown off during the conference. Moon Studios new title, Ori and the Blind forest was first, followed later by Limbo creator’s Playdead studios new title, Inside. They also showed off a montage of all new ID@Xbox titles.
An all new Tomb Raider was on display next, with a CG trailer for Rise of the Tomb Raider. It will be a follow-up to the 2013 Tomb Raider game, and will have Lara finding her destiny, as an adventurer.
CD Projekt Red took the stage next to showcase The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. They showed off five minutes of gameplay, featuring a hunt for a Griffon. Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming February 24th, 2014.
Microsoft next announced it is reviving the classic Xbox franchise Phantom Dust. No release window, developer, or gameplay was shown, but was described as “a reimagined version of the beloved classic with all-new gameplay and graphics.”
Ubisoft returned to the stage next to show off The Division. The new five minutes of gameplay showcased incredible graphics, and the game’s incredible interface. Players will collect new bases of operations throughout New York, and had some cool new gameplay elements. Devices like flashbang drones, fire turrets, and more were all shown in the impressive gameplay.
Platinum Games’ Hideki Kamiya took the stage next to announce an all new Xbox One exclusive, Scalebound. Scalebound will introduce “action at a whole new scale”, with the trailer showing a character fighting alongside a dragon against a smaller beast, and a massive, nine headed Hydra.
Microsoft closed the trailer with the return of Crackdown! David Jones, the director on the first Crackdown, has returned to the series with new creators Cloudgine. No release date, or real title was given, but hot damn if that trailer wasn’t impressive.
