Ubisoft has announced Far Cry 4, and it will be releasing this year. It will come to PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 and will be launching on November 18th in the US, and November 21st in Europe. The game is set in the Himalayan Mountains in the fictional region of Kryat. Kryat is ruled over by a self-appointed despotic king, who is the main figure shown on the box art. Ubisoft says that players will “write their own story” using a vast array of weapons and tools across a massive open world.
“Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations,” said Dan Hay, Executive Producer at Ubisoft Montreal. “Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months.” According to today’s Financial notes, Ubisoft’s goal for Far Cry 4 is to have it amongst the top 10 selling games of 2014.
Ubisoft Montreal is the primary developer for this title, with Red Storm (developers of the Ghost Recon franchise), Ubisoft Toronto, Shanghai, and Kiev assisting in development as well. Ubisoft is promising the first look at Far Cry 4 will come during it’s E3 Media Briefing, which is on June 9th, at 5pm Eastern. It is heavily rumored that Drive composer Cliff Martinez will be scoring the game as well.
Player who pre-order the game will recieve the Hurk’s Redemption DLC. The DLC is described by Ubisoft as follows: “The popular nutjob from Far Cry 3 returns in Far Cry 4 in a series of three single-player missions, available in the game’s Limited Edition. The great news: pre-order Far Cry 4 and you’ll receive a free upgrade to the Limited Edition, which not only includes the Hurk’s Redemption missions but also The Impaler – Hurk’s hefty harpoon gun. Pre-orders are available now through all major retailers.”
