We’ve known that Assassin’s Creed has had multiple developers for quite some time. Today, Ubisoft revealed just how many are working on this year’s Assassin’s Creed game: Unity. It’s primarily being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, but has had assistance from Ubisoft’s studios in Toronto, Singapore, Quebec, Annecy, Shanghai, Chengdu, Kiev, Montpellier, and Bucharest. That’s 10 total studios working on one title.
This strategy of multiple studios working on one game is working for Ubisoft, as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag sold over 11 million copies. “We are extremely pleased that Assassin’s Creed has become the fourth-biggest franchise in the industry,” Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said during the publisher’s earnings call today. The Assassin’s Creed franchise is also the number four selling franchise of the last generation, only behind Call of Duty, Mario, and FIFA.
