Flappy Bird’s creator Dong Nguyen spoke with CNBC this afternoon and dropped a major announcement; Flappy Birds will be returning to the iOS and Android marketplaces this August. He also said the new version of Flappy Birds will include multiplayer, and that it will reportedly be “less addictive” then the original version. He wants to include multiplayer as he feels single player is “too boring”.
If you recall, Flappy Bird was removed from the app store for being “too addictive”. Flappy Birds was the most downloaded game of the iOS app store during January, and became a cultural phenomenon. At it’s peak, it was estimated Nguyen was earning upwards of $50,000 every day from the game’s ad revenue. Nguyeb tweeted back in March that it would return to the app store eventually, but “not soon”. The full interview is available on Kotaku right now. Are you excited for Flappy Birds to return or do you think that people won’t care about it anymore? Let me know in the comments below!
