VGX reveal and trailer roundup!

Update: Unfortunately, due to copyright claims by Viacom, almost all of the trailers have been pulled from Youtube.  I’ll link you guys to Gametrailer’s own site though, so you can see all the trailers.

The 2013 VGX’s are in the book.  Spike and Gametrailers once again brought it with reveals of new titles, and all new trailers for incredibly anticipated games like Titanfall and the Witcher 3.  Starting things off tonight was a surprise collaboration between Gearbox Studios and Telltale Games called Tales from the Borderlands.  Little is known about the game, but I would guess we will learn more in the coming months.

Tales from the Borderlands was not the only game coming from Telltale that we learned about today.  Telltale had their other reveal spoiled by IGN a few weeks back, but it was still awesome to receive confirmation.  Telltale is making a game based on the Game of Thrones tv series.  No news on the characters, or plot, but expect the game sometime in 2014.  Probably late 2014, just because of how many other games they are making too

The final reveal of the game was a stunner.  Hello Games, creators of Joe Danger, have created on of the most ambitious games I’ve ever seen.  No Man’s Sky is a first person exploration and shooter game with a procedurally generated world.  Players can go from sea, to land to sky seemingly without loading screens.  If this small studio can pull this off, we are in for an amazing experience.  No timetable was given for the game’s release, nor what platforms it’s on.  I’d assume PC is a given though.

Tomb Raider was nominated for Game of the Year tonight, and also revealed that the Crystal Dynamics game will be making the trip to next-gen consoles as well.  Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition will arrive on PS4 and Xbox One on January 28, 2014, and come with all of the games DLC.  I would be more impressed with the games visuals, had I not already played the game on my PC, granted it still looks great, but that’s just how I know the game.

The Broken Age was the game which really proved Kickstarter could work for video games.  It already had quite the impressive voice cast, but one missing component was the voice of one of the games main characters, Shay.  Elijah Woods, of Lord of the Rings and Wilfred fame, is revealed to voice Shay and Woods and Tim Schafer talk about how Woods got involved with the project.

Remedy Studios have a long history of creating incredible worlds for the play to play in, and awesome gameplay.  The Studio looks to combine the two with it’s upcoming Xbox One exclusive Quantum Break.  The trailer below explains the story; our heroes Jack Joyce and Beth Wilder are involved with a time travel experiment with Paul Zerine(?), and break the time stream.  These three now have the ability to control time, and Beth and Jack must fight Paul’s company, Monarch, to save the world.  It’s a really fantastic trailer, and has gotten me quite excited for a game I wasn’t overly hyped for.

What would South Park be without fart jokes?  Stick of Truth, the upcoming South Park game from Obisidian, continues to amaze me with each bit of the game we see.  The bit of gameplay we see below shows off both the games combat and gameplay, as we learn how to cup a fart spell and throw it at Scott Malkinson.  The gameplay, while turn based, requires correct button and stick prompts.  Look for South Park: The Stick of Truth on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on March 4th, 2014.

Bungie arrived to the VGX’s to show off more footage for Titanfall.  I can’t say for certain how much, if much at all, was in-engine footage, but it certainly did impress once again.  One really interesting thing to note was the music playing of the trailer.  It looks like we got our first listen of the game’s score from Marty O’Donnell and Paul McCartney.

During E3 2013, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment wowed gamers with their latest new IP, The Division.  The Division is powered by the Snowdrop engine, and it’s capabilities are showed off in the trailer below.  I’ll be frank, I’d be amazed if this game will be able to do all the things it’s promising on PC, let alone console, when this game launches sometime in the future.

The Witcher is easily one of the best RPG franchises going today, and CD Projekt Red looks like they will make this series even better with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.  The trailer below doesn’t showcase much, but what it does show is damn impressive.  Look for the Witcher 3 sometime in 2014 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Respawn Interactive closed the show tonight with two new reveals for the hotly anticipated Titanfall.  The two reveals were all new classes of Titans, called the Ogre and Stryder.  Ogre is a much heavier armored, slow, and powerful Titan, while the Stryder focuses on being lightweight and fast.  Both of the reveal trailers can be seen below.

What was your favorite trailer of the night?  Personally, I fell in love with No Man’s Sky, and The Witcher 3 continued to amaze me.  Destiny’s score also seems like it will reach the pantheon of amazing game soundtracks.  Let me know what you guys thought of the reveals, and the entire show, in the comments below!
