Spike’s annual Video Game Awards have been re-branded as VGX, and today they have announced their nominees for the annual game award show. The most important award, Game of the Year, nominee’s are Bioshock Infinite, GTA V, The Last of Us, Super Mario 3D World and Tomb Raider. Other awards for the evening will include Studio of the Year, Best Independent Game, and Most Anticipated Game, among many others.
In a suprising turn of event, the Video game Awards will not be shown on Spike TV, but instead streamed live on Gametrailers.com, as well as the websites of Spike TV, Comedy Central, MTV, MTV 2 and BET. The 3 hour event will feature “more world premier trailers, one-on-one interviews with the industry’s most visionary creatives and expert panels designed to bring perspective to 2014 and beyond.” This new format replaces the classic Hollywood style award show format that has been the shows mainstay.
To see all the nominees, and vote on the winner for Most Anticipated, head over to the Official VGX website.
This reporter’s opinion: Ok, seriously, Tomb Raider? That’s certainly a strange final game to round out the top five. I’m not saying Tomb Raider is a bad game, far from it, but it is not even in the same class as GTA V, Bioshock Infinite, and The Last of Us. We here at the League of Mediocre Gamers will be holding our own Game of the Year awards, but will actually hold them once the year is done.
