Multiple reports of faulty PS4’s from early users

ps4Multiple sources are reporting issues with retail and review PS4s.  The first stories to surface were from Kotaku and IGN.  Kotaku reportedly had a faulty HDMI port on their first PS4 that they were given to review.  The console was quickly replaced by Sony representatives, and have experienced no issues since.  IGN‘s review console was bricked after it downloaded the 1.5 firmware update.  Their console was replaced by a local Sony representative, and the fault one was taken for study.

Gianbomb’s Jeff Gerstman tweeted about two crashes of his console last night while playing Killzone Shadow Falls.  Multiple Taco Bell PlayStation 4 contest winners have reported faulty consoles, with issues ranging from the faulty HDMI ports, to Pulsing blue light of death (as it is becoming known).  Their was also an issue where an early PS4 user managed to brick his own console by unplugging it during an update, but that one was his own fault.

Sony Shuhei Yoshida took to twitter to reassured gamers about the PS4 saying “Be assured we are investigating reported PS4 issues. The number is very small compared to shipped, we believe they are isolated incidents.”  Sony also released a statement to IGN about the failures:

“A handful of people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems. This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.

There have been several problems reported, which leads us to believe there isn’t a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of systems. The number of affected systems represents less than .4% of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction.”

I will keep you folks updated on any new issues or fixes that people run into, but we could be looking for a rough launch tomorrow, if these issues are far more wide spread then Sony has lead us to believe.  I certainly hope not though, as I would be quite sad to have my PS4 not work tomorrow. *Knock on wood, Oh god please work*
