People Can Fly, developers of Bulletstorm and Gears of War Judgement, will now be known as Epic Games Poland, according to PixelEnemy. People Can Fly has had a long relationship with Epic, as it ported Gears of War to PC, and developed the two titles for Epic. Epic bought the Poland-based company in 2002.
Pixel Enemy asked Epic about the name change and received the following statement: “We’ve changed the studio’s name from People Can Fly to Epic Games Poland. We’re a global company with talented people working toward one goal across the world. We think this helps better reflect that.”
Epic also told PixelEnemy that Epic Games Poland is working on Fortnite. The co-op survival title was first announced in 2011, and little has been seen from the title ever since. Hopefully People Can Fly’s, sorry Epic Games Poland’s, involvement will help the game come out sooner rather than later.
This reporter’s opinion: I’m not a fan of this change, as People Can Fly always had it’s own sense of flair. Just naming it Epic Games Poland takes away that sense of individuality, and makes it feel too corporate to me. Another thing I want to comment on is where are any games from Epic? Apparently, People Can Fly are the only people making games, because they made the only title Epic published since Gears of War 3, Gears of War Judgement. It makes me wonder if the new Unreal Engine 4 is taking all of their resources.
