The Escapist is reporting that EA has decided to close it’s North Carolina based studio. No official word has yet been given, but the studios official page currently bring up a 404 error, which is never a good sign.
This North Carolina-based studio seems to have mostly built freemium and mobile titles. They, reportedly, worked on the iOS title Monopoly Hotels, and with other properties from Hasbro and the NFL. It’s not all bad news though, as it seems most of these employees will be relocated before the studios closure.
This reporter’s opinion: I always feel bad at the loss of jobs for anyone, but atleast many of the employees will be moved to other studios. In all truth, it would not suprise me to see more these mobile/freemium studios being consolodiated, as the market for the games has slowed considerably.
