The Hollywood Reporter is now reporting that the G4 network will in fact remain alive. Previously, NBC had planned to turn the network into the Esquire Network, but Esquire will now take over the Style Network instead. This move comes at the last moments, as the networks plans to launch on September 23rd.
In regards to G4, it’s future is not looking any brighter. “G4 is expected to remain as is for the foreseeable future, though it’s highly unlikely the company will invest in more original programming. Stotsky will remain in charge of that network as well as Esquire, which will remain his primary focus with regard to time, energy and resources.”
This reporter’s opinion: I am glad to see G4 still exists, but sad that it seems it will be nothing but a zombie network. All they seem to do is re-run cops all day, and that’s what lead to the networks downfall (in my opinion). If they were to refocus toward the core gaming and nerd audience by bringing in top content creators from Youtube and other internet sites, they could see a real rebound and rebirth. Unfortunately it’s NBC, so they will do the dumbest things possible.
