Both the PS4 and Xbox One will both be launching this fall, and likely this November. Most had assumed that both companies would be announcing their release dates either at Gamescom or PAX and it looks like Sony will follow the first track.
According to a post on the UK Playstation blog, Sony will announce it’s “release plans” for the PS4, as well as updates on the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita. Their press conference is scheduled for 18:00 BST on August 20th. If I had to guess, I would say that Microsoft will also announce the launch of the Xbox One during Gamescom as well.
This reporter’s opinion: If I had to hazard a guess, I’d say the PS4 will launch on Tuesday November 12th or 19th. Each of those give the company enough time to restock the console before Black Friday, and have the major games release on their consoles, like Watch Dogs, Call of Duty Ghosts, and Battlefield 4. My assumption is that each console will launch on either the 12th or the 19th. This way they release after Call of Duty, and can still launch with major third party titles.
